High School Summer Learning

High school credit retrieval for students who need to make up failed coursework and extended school year programs for qualifying students receiving special education services will be offered in person at our schools, much like in past summers. More information will be shared directly with students and families who qualify for these programs.

Credit Retrieval

Credit Retrieval will be held be held at our five comprehensive high schools and Tacoma Online. Some programs will be in in-person and others held virtually. Students identified by their schools that need to take summer classes will be highly encouraged to sign up and get registered for classes.

Who? Students identified by counselors that have failed 1st semester and/or are credit deficient. Counselors and summer school facilitators will contact the parents to enroll.
When? June 25-July 18, 2024

Foss, Lincoln, Mt Tahoma, Silas, Stadium, and TOL
What?

Many of the courses will be available that are needed or required to graduate. Sessions and course selection will be made when the student meets with the counselor. Current courses include, but aren't limited to:

  • English: English Language Arts 9, 10, 11, 12
  • Mathematics: Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry
  • Science: Biology and Chemistry
  • Social Studies: World History and US History

Additional Summer Learning Programs

Jump Start for 6th Grade and 9th Grade

Jump Start helps incoming students feel confident and ready for success in school.  In August, Jump Start programs will be offered for students entering 6th and 9th grade only. There is no kindergarten Jump Start this summer. Learn more about each program below.
