Washington Technology Student Association

What is WTSA?

The Washington Technology Student Association (WTSA) is a student organization in Washington devoted to the needs of students interested in STEM and technology.  WTSA members are interested in careers in Architecture, Engineering, Robotics, Construction, Manufacturing, Film/Video Production, Graphic Arts, and many other technical areas.

The Technology Student Association fosters personal growth, leadership, and opportunities in technology, innovation, design, and engineering. Members apply and integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts through co-curricular activities, competitive events, and related programs.

In the fall of 2025, IDEA established a school-wide chapter of WTSA. Every IDEA student has access to student membership and associated resources/opportunities.

High School Competitive Events

All IDEA students can compete in high school level WTSA competitive events. There are several different event categories ranging from Animation, Coding, Board Game Design, Digital Video Production and many more.

This year, a pilot group of about 12 students submitted qualifying round projects in the areas of Animatronics, Audio Podcasting, CAD Engineering, Coding, Concept Art, Children's Stories, Extemporaneous Speech, Fashion Design and Technology, Promotional Design, and Photographic Technology. Students whose submissions qualify are invited to the State Competition at the annual WTSA Conference in Spokane in April 2026. Students who qualify at the state-level are invited to compete in the National Competition.
